Finally!
One of the pullets laid 2 eggs today! They stopped for 3 weeks after they were NPIP tested. I guess they have forgiven me!

Are any of those from my grandbabies?

Thank you. From what I've read it looks like I should add a second line right away?
If you wish to be a breeder and sell hatching eggs and/or chicks, then yes, you would be wise to look for some unrelated stock. Breeding hatch mates is never a real good idea, but that is especially true with Isbars.

You are one of the grandmothers (pullets). Candi is the other one! I'm putting them in the incubator tomorrow to check if they develop. Already know they are fertile. My other pullet's comb is finally getting red, so this roo, whose mother you are, will finally get a girl too! His fertility has been proven. Studly is his name.

I currently have a quad of barnevelders, and although we love them dearly they are by far the most hermit like chickens I've ever owned. They never go more than 10' from the coop. I'm hoping the Isbars are a little more adventurous and good at foraging. We have 10 acres that they can play on for bug patrol.

Be careful what you wish for! Mine would rather get out and forage than eat their feed! They are really great birds.

Lol...I'm sure that it will be fine until I actually WANT to keep them in.

These birds are just for my family's enjoyment. No plans to sell chicks or hatching eggs, however if I'm gonna spend the $ on rare, beautiful chickens, I might as well jump in with both feet and do what I can to help improve the breed♡

Hi all, I am new to Isbars. I ordered some eggs from Orchard Hill Poultry, they were from Greenfire's 2nd generation. I had a fantastic hatch, out of 8 eggs, 7 pullets and 1 cockerel. They are lovely birds, I have 1 splash and the rest are blue. But I don't have room for all of them, so if anyone is close to Chicago, I have a trio available for $50. They are around 5 months old.

If they are just for your enjoyment, you can probably do with birds from 2 different sources to start. I would wait until your eggs hatch from Orchard Hill and you see what you end up with. If you hatch enough pullets for your liking, then you only need to find an unrelated cockerel and re-home any cockerels from your hatch so there is no chance of inbreeding. Cockerels are not usually too difficult to find if you have any breeders near you. If after your Orchard Hill chicks grow up enough to tell the pullets from the cockerels you would like more pullets, then you could find some more hatching eggs or chicks from a different source. Of course, then you would still need an unrelated cockerel for all of them, unless you set up 2 different breeding pens.
