Isbar thread

Thank you, Kytinpusher. I am glad to know those things and will watch out for them.
So far, all is good. Very typey Rooster. I had a black Roo too that I had to get rid of due to space, but he too had silver hackles.

I need more. Who is a good source for quality Isbars on this site? Can you help me there?
Thank you.

My isbar chick will push feed out of the feeder then eat off the brooder floor. Making a huge mess. Is this common of the breed?

Ihilani, What kind of things are showing up? I may have some from the second batch from Greenfire. I got mine in March.

Do you sell hatching eggs? Also, do you have Rhodebars now?
I prefer the egg-layer type on the first imports rather than the more dual-purpose type I've seen in photos of the second import lines. Isbars are so feed efficient, laying loads of large eggs from small LF with excellent foraging abilities and calm temperaments. Have also seen mixed colors, both gold and silver hackle/wingbow/saddle on the same bird, as well as what looks suspiciously like copper Marans traits. Just not my preference, but of course opinions differ. Our main breeding flock of Isbars have been sold. We have some young stock and the black breeding cockerel that is in our Olive Egger pen working.

Our Rhodebar hens are going into a molt, but there are 4 POL pullets coming online soon and three more right behind them. Should have eggs available in quantity sooner rather than later. The Rhodebar flock is for sale however, so time will tell. We are not wanting to ship the adult birds.

I got my first Isbar egg and first legbar egg on the same day. They are small...but more colorful than I expected. Is the Isbar egg the right color or do I possibly have an olive egger? The pullet looks to be full Isbar.

Congratulations~ Pretty egg colors. -- I've heard that Isbars lay various shades of green. I have one that lays the more olive color. (She came from Omega Hills Farms)---- I have had sage, mint, olive and even speckled. Always a definite green. Love the Isbars. With time - the saturation of the eggshell color tends to lighten a bit in my experience (especially as the eggs get larger).

Thank you!!! I love the lighter green speckled ones...but I'm just so proud of my girls....in this heat and laying beautiful eggs....,I am so blessed.

Lucky you!   I am waiting patiently for my Isbar hen and Cream Legbar girls to lay their first egg.
How old are  you hens?
Mine are 20 weeks old now.   Very red combs.

Isbar is 23 weeks and Legbar is 22 weeks. You're almost there!!!!

I would not say that is a pure Isbar egg, but I'm fussy. We never hatched anything from the Isbar eggs purchased that had any tan or olive tones, just the pure minty or light sage greens. Here are the first and second generation egg colors, 2nd gen. on top:
