Isbar thread

Thanks! I have named her Izzy and she is definitely a fiesty little thing. I do hope she's a pullet. We have no experience with this particular breed and when she also chest bumped my large Marans chicks, I started wondering...

I am really excited that 3/3 Isbar eggs show that they've started as of day 5...I admit. I got a little candle happy and had to check.

Haha - we had a speckled sussex hen chest bump our rooster after he tried to mate with her buddy. "Take that you naughty rooster!" I seriously wish I'd had a video of it!

Oh my - yes! I've been known to candle as early as day three. Patience is not one of my strong suits!! :)

Part of mine is a little lazy--I had a breeder give me replacements for eggs that had been infertile. But, you know the chicken math never works. She owed me 5 eggs and gave me a dozen--Jill Rees CLs, Isbars & Chocolate/Cuckoo Orps. I have space for 21 and had 23 eggs, so any culls I'd like to do early so I can stop manually turning!! But, the other part of me is the crazy egg ultrasound addiction!!

Can someone please tell me if my 9 week old is a cockerel? I'm guessing yes but hoping no. I lost my blue baby to a freak fermented food accident so I only have this one left and it would be my only green layer. In the photos I've seen, the hens have big red wattles too. This is my first season with chickens so I am learning a lot.

I had hoped our little one was a hen too... alas. I have two black SRB cockerels. They're sweet, but they're not going to lay eggs! Darn.

My little dapper cockerel! Of the 3 that survived shipping, ended up with a trio. One black pullet, one blue, and this little Splash dude. So far he has a good attitude!

He is a cutie! Our little splash cockerel has really begun to be the most vigilant flock protector out there, while still maintaining respect for us (wish these traits always went hand in hand!)
How many did you have shipped to you? Was it post office error? Just asking because I've had both excellent shipments and complete DOA shipments and I wonder what other folks are experiencing as well.

Total shipped was 33, 28 remaining. Lost 2 Isbars, 2 Legbars, and 1 Twentse, 3 in transit, 2 within 24 hours of arrival. Was the first time I've had chicks shipped in, usually I do shipped eggs.
