Isbar thread

I had to deal with our 2 Isbar roosters recently. One was a big problem, and the other one looked like he could be. So, they became a nice French dish the other night. Now I have the 5 females left. They are just about 17 weeks old, so I am looking forward to some nice blue/green eggs soon:weee Does anyone know about slate legs with the Isbars?

I got my first two Isbar eggs, one one Christmas and the other last night. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the egg color. I think the picture on feathersite is completely bogus with the saturation bumped way up. The same picture from the Greenfire site is also not accurate but the same picture posted again by Greenfire on rarebreedauctions is more like the color of mine. I understand that different computers will show pictures a different color but the bright moss green, if you are expecting that, is not true. The color is still pretty but not at all what I was expecting. It is more of a light drab green than a bright mossy green. Just wanted to let you guys know. I am going to try to get a really accurate photo for the time when I put some of these up for auction. I still love my Isbars.

Anyway here's my first egg.

It is the one on top of my blue eggs in this picture.

This was what I was expecting. In retrospect, I guess it isn't that far off from this picture.

The first two pictures do look like the colour of the first group of four, but the one picture with the other colored eggs, it looks brown.

The Isbars don't lay a consistent shade of green, there's a lot of variation in the genepool.

Can be anything from pale clean green to light olive.
Green is blue with brown and depending on how saturated the brown is there will be varying shades of green. Not all of the hens lay speckled eggs either.
Usually there's enough variation within the flocks brown-eggshell genes that selecting for the shade of green one prefers is not going to take forever. Just see what the next generation gives you

oh yeah, i totally understand and would feel the exact same way.

they are beautiful...what's their temperament like?

Mine have been a bit skittish as juveniles but seem to mellow as they get a bit older. I am not one to try and pick up and hold my chickens unless there is a problem so I don't know if they would go for that. They are comfortable around me.
