Isn't It Too Early For Eggs?

Our guineas are laying early this season...Starting right at March. actually just a little before and we're getting swamped with eggs....Starting this early, probably means they will finish early. I wonder what made them start so early.... At any rate, we are delighted about the fact that they are laying. What I don't hatch or sell goes to the yummiest eggs. They are really rich tasting and make the best baked goods! Love our guineas!

Just curious, have you set and hatched any of your Guinea eggs? Was wondering with the weird/early laying season (here too) if your fertility is high or not.

I'm going to set them I accidentally missed my pocket with one and dropped it and sure nough there was the white bullseye int it. Do I win a prize for smallest guinea egg and the blonde hen who is the biggest laid it lol think it could hatch

Our guinea flock is extremely ahem "active"..... We have at least a 1 boy to 1 girl ratio.. It seems like I loose the females to predators every year, no matter how many I had extra. Anyway, PeepsCA re your question. On March 2 I did a visual fertility check and 11 off 12 eggs had the fertility marking!. I used them to make our noodles with for the intensive yellow color and flavor. 11 eggs of 12 were fertile. We have about 1 boy to 1 girl ratio out with our guineas and possibly more ugh, anyone need some boy guineas!!!?

2 days ago, again opened more guinea eggs for breakfast and these were 100% fertile.

I will not start hatching the guineas until about a month or more out as we are doing custom chicken hatches now. LOL guineaguy that's a funny little egg. Is it a guinea really??????

LOL guineaguy, cute little fart egg (I'm not being a weirdo, lol that's really what they are called). Common for first-timers. Probably won't hatch, most fart eggs don't even have a yolk, and if they do they do not have enough albumen for the keet to develop very long into incubation. If you crack it open the shell will be at least twice as thick as a normal Guinea egg.

Glad you are getting fertile eggs, hope you hatch some pretty keets! I decided to take a break from setting eggs. Have 2 batches in the 'bators, and a dozen or so in the fridge

That's great you have such high fertility so early in the season. Obviously your extra males are gettin' the job done, you might not want to get rid of any until you are done selling eggs and hatching keets for the season, lol.

Oh I'm about to relent and give some silkies some guinea eggs to sweetie pie (aka darling hubbie) hatch....My silkie friends would be SOOOOO upset with me but incubator space at a premium right now! Egg noodles were great and soooo yellow!
