I recently rescued a chicken, and she isn’t integrating well with my flock of 6. I’m hoping if I add multiple chickens instead of just 1, it will be easier on them all. I’m in the Traverse city Michigan area.

Tim in northern Wisconsin. I have 13 Bielefelder hens not quite one year old and I can winter over about ten. These were hatched at my home and are good egg producers. Unfortunately, they are in the midst of their molt and look like they have mange! They haven’t laid an egg in three weeks and I suspect it will be spring before they come into lay again. I had planned on sending the three fattest to freezer camp, but would donate them to a good cause if you wanted to drive down and pick them up. I’m in Arbor Vitae, about 50 miles south of Hurley. Attached pic is from summer past, they are pretty hens. They are quite good in the cold, I’ve had no cold related issues with the Biels and have kept them through a couple of wicked cold winters here.

Howdy fellow michigander! I recently purchased 3 ISA browns that were hatched last spring from a local guy, for a friend who lost a few of hers to a coyote. I'm not sure if you would like a scenic drive to the UP but I can give you his contact info! His chickens are organic raised and good layers!

Sure, send me the info! Not sure when I might get up that way, though. Where in the UP?

@TSP if you ever get towards Marquette or Escanaba way I would buy them from you :)

or I could house them in my coop (our coop is named the Chick-Inn) for Wispergrrl for a few days, as a part way point to lower MI :D...
