I would just select the big brown eggs if I were you. Those will come from the red stars, RIRs, Jersey Giants, barred rocks, Orpingtons and Brahmas.

If there are specific hens you want eggs for hatching from, like the Easter egger, then use the lipstick trick.

Yes. The Australorp and Easter egger are also standard size and very hardy to cold, but they will lay big but pale, tinted eggs. So go with the big brown ones, and if you want EE or Australorp eggs included, do the lipstick trick on them.

The Phoenix, Ayam Cemani, and silkie are the ones laying the small, light tinted eggs, so exclude those.

Ok so I did the lipstick. I went AlL In. Every lady has their own shade from neon to black. (Close colors by breed did not receive similar lipstick. The check out clerk at dollar tree asked if I was runnng off to a circus. No one enjoyed today’s event.

Who's been turning them? If they havent been rotated 3x a day its not likely theyll make it. Unless they were only just put in a day ago.
