We recently lost half our our flock to a fisher attack. It was awful, we lost one of our female khakis the night of the attack, and one of our female pekins within twenty-four hours. We were left with a male and female of each breed. However our male pekin, Darling, was in really bad shape, way worse than the other three. We did absolutely everything we could for him, including bringing him to Cornell vet. Unfortunately, yesterday, just a day before what would have been four weeks since the attack, he suddenly suffered from severe neurological issues. My family is heartbroken. He was doing so well for so long and we truly thought he was going to make it. We now have a flock of three. Baby, our male khaki and his mated pair, Bear, and Honey, our female pekin. Honey is grieving too, she loved Darling very much and the two of them were there for each other after the passing of our other female pekin, Sweetheart. Unfortunately we fear that Honey is now the lowest in the pecking order as she refuses to mate with our male khaki. He and his female, though much smaller than her, both have been picking on her. She is sad, lonely, and outnumbered. We live in upstate New York, about an hour south of Syracuse. Our ducks are still young, hatched in March. Does anyone know of anyone looking to rehome a single female pekin? Or willing to help out a flock in need? Honey is in desperate need of a friend.
Below is a photo of Honey and Darling cuddling from a few weeks ago.
