ISO silver laced Barnevelder eggs

Out of the 48 eggs 5 are clear, 4 started but quit, and the other 39 show normal development for day 8. May need to build a second brooder🤯

I was going to suggest Foxfire, but got beat to it. I ordered some from MI recently, not barnevelders, but if you look on ebay, they will say where they are shipped from.

Mine are on day 3. My wish list was BCM, Isbar, and SFH, and potluck the rest. I also asked her to send Barnevelders, but she said they were not laying. But check with her again.

Yes, Cindy's Barneys still aren't laying yet, and it's killing cold in Idaho right now.

I know she breeds for hardiness, but 12F is CCCCOOOOOLD!

I ordered a batch from Foxfire last summer and was pleased. Air cells only a wee bit jiggly after shipping to the east coast. Fresh. Good communication and while it was a potluck, tried to accommodate requests. I think I ended with about a 50% hatch rate which is typical for shipped eggs. If I’m looking for a fun hatch I’d consider purchasing a potluck again.

I will say the pavlovskya that hatched had deformation issues - legs messed up and started developing cross beak, eventually died. May be due to such a limited gene pool for the breed in the US. My SFH that hatched was a wonderful pretty sweet boy, but he had a vaulted skull, which suggested a crested bred to a crested which apparently is not advised for SFH. He did die related to the vaulted skull - head rooster pecked him just right on the head. So maybe poor gene pool? Or maybe just my bad luck.

EDIT: oh, also to add, the eggs from Foxfire were clean! I mean relatively speaking. (She didn’t wash them) There was minimal dirt/stains or a reasonable amount. Some other eggs from other sellers I got last year were downright filthy IMO, which is suggestive of poor nesting conditions. Even had one seller send along a note saying they washed the eggs - big no no! Predictably they slowly started rotting in the incubator. Tossed as soon as they were smelly.

There is a seller of DSLB in Florida, though purely due to shipping may not be your best option. I ordered eggs from her last year but none hatched. I am trying again this year ... her Silverrudds eggs were lovely. I’m probably silly for doing that! This is because, for me in my limited experience, the few batches of eggs from “down South” I order last year from different sellers did not arrive in good condition, despite packing being good from the sellers. Air cells all over the place and I swear some yolks were scrambled. There were a few other issues (dep on seller), but pretty sure they all would have gone through the same or similar places in the USPS so my theory is it’s just rough going at some PO hubs down that way (I’m in VA). Instead Foxfire is much farther and eggs were fine.

I ordered lots of eggs from many different sellers last year. Some were better, some were worse, but all hatched at least a few chicks.

... Except for just one batch that arrived with a couple broken, and the contents were GREEN with age. Yuk!
