ISO- Silver Welsh Harlequin or Cayuga Female

Hahaha, you’re too sweet. We are in Ohio, so that might be a bit too far to ship. I would feel terrible for the duck. I’m sure we’ll find something, it just might take longer than we want. In the meantime, we got her a Ducky lookalike stuffed animal that she can snuggle in his place.
ya I think Ohio is too far I really hope you find her a duck!

Just came across this guy on Petfinder. For the love of god, somebody please go get Lt. Dan! He looks like he’s seen some stuff, but there’s something about him that just makes me melt. Plus, he’s only $5.

Are you gonna get him?!
I wish! It’s a 6.5 hour drive from us, so I’m not sure I can justify that expense and headache (baby and toddler in the car) for a $5 duck. I do love him though. He reminds me of our KC, Derpy, who always looks like she took a spin in a blender. She always seems to be in the middle of a molt, no matter the time of year- feathers going every direction but the one they’re supposed to. She’s a mess.

Ya it's hard to drive that far for a $5 duck with a baby and a toddler, has she found a duck she wants yet? My duck named shadow has her feathers going in ever way to😂😂 it's because of the raccoon attack! I hope she finds a duck that she wants! I just looked at the picture of the drake again and he looks like he's smiling!

I hope someone gets him, he needs a great home poor little guy. I would get him if he wasn't so far his feathers look like they are in a bad condition.

you should checkout ideal hatchery I think that they have a small order limit. their location in in Texas, but the ducks are cheap so you could just get like 5 and then sell the ones that you don't want to some local people. they will ship the ducks to you.

Have you found a duck yet? I think Holderread farms has adult ducks, they only have golden cascade and hookbill ducks though.

That is killing me! We don’t have room for more than one, maaaaybe two. If we didn’t have our four girls already, I’d jump at that posting.
Please please get at least 2. Ducks can get very lonely. Also if you get them as ducklings, they thrive much better with another or others than they do alone. Not saying you’re doomed or wrong if you only get one. We raised a single duckling and added him to our flock with no troubles. But definitely are much happier when they have a companion.

We have a very diverse flock, a drake and hen welsh harlequin. Their population was very scarce and they are getting integrated back in so awesome choice in my opinion! You should always get a drake and hen and take a shot at hatching/selling ducklings. By the sons of your 4year old she would love that process and being able to see it all first hand.

We also have a Cayuga hen and I agree with your daughter they are so much fun to watch molt and develop snow feathers.

I would suggest ordering from hatchery then you can select breed and have them be sexed for sure. Depending on the hatchery will depend on the minimum they will send. A lot of them will also hit you with a small order charge if you have less than 10 selected. Ultimately it is cheaper to order more than less so finding someone near you to split an order with night be ideal.

If you went to local stores usually their minimum is 6 birds, in my state of NY anyhow. No where around us ever had welsh harlequins not stores or local farms. The stores do typically have Cayugas though, but it is all straight run. If they are a few days old you could vent sex them but that’s only if they let you which some places won’t as you can harm the duckling if done wrong. If they don’t let you or the bird is more than a few days old then you’ll have to keep them until you can sex by voice.

Hope you find what you’re looking for. Such fun animals to have, in my free time I’m always reading more and expanding my knowledge because they are so interesting.

We wouldn’t have just one duck. We have four females currently (two SA, one KC, one Pekin). We want to add an adult female to avoid the lonely duckling issue. As far as hatching our own, we have limited space and live in a suburban area, so five is our limit.
