Isolde is here, but is scared, need advice!

I know, no more mint Saxony unless she decides to lay green again one day! Could it be something related to her age, or the season?

I will try reading to her! I love to read, so it could be a nice chance to bond.

What would one read to a duck? Maybe I should hold off on the Mysteries for now so I don't scare her. Or read Dean Koontz, everybody loves Koontz right?

Oh and I may have to give her a middle name now..."Houdini" lol. She keeps escaping the duck yard, and I do NOT know how! She thinks her quarantine period should be over.

Are you certain the egg is from her? She's laid a lot of eggs for me, and none were white. She is a very good layer, and her eggs are always green. I'd guess it's either a fluke, or someone else is laying them. I'd also be surprised if she started laying while being so stressed. I"m glad she's at least starting to get settled in.

She's the only one in there, so there's no doubt. It was in her night cage in the morning. Two mornings in a row now. I only have one other hen, who is penned separately, and both eggs were accounted for.

Weird isn't it??

And she hates handling, but if I just sit with her, she will even start to eat now in front of me. Her food dish is empty this morning too, so she must have her appetite back. It's funny, she's a bit afraid of my daughter so anytime she comes near, Isolde hisses at her.

She's settling in just fine now, and if she'd stop escaping from her day yard and trying to wander away we'd be perfect! lol

Well, I'm guessing her ink jets haven't fully kicked in yet, then. She may have laid one or two white eggs at the beginning of her cycle, but I honestly can't remember now. Really glad to hear she's calming down and eating.
She's never seen a little person before,so hopefully she will stop hissing at your daughter once she gets used to her . Really, you would think a little person would be a lot less scary than a big one!

It will be interesting to see if they turn green again. Either way, it really doesn't matter to us.

I think all little people are scarier to ducks. Maybe it's because they put out more energy and are a little more "exuberant" than adults are. She 8, and really wants Isolde to like to her, I just don't know that she has the patience to sit down and win her trust.

Reinforced her fence with hardware cloth, and also layered her little night cage with the same, so that we can leave her outside at night now. less stress for her, and less worrying for me.

Thanks again Kansaseq!
