It’s official!!!

I am an official chicken owner picked up 2 laying hens today - 1 Golden Comet and 1 Wyandotte. They are in quarantine currently but my kids and I loved spending the afternoon watching them and thinking of names. I also have my 4 pullets coming next weekend. I’m already crazy, and crazy about them!

The Golden (Doris) is so sweet, ate out of my hand, let me hold her and pick her up. The Wyandotte (currently Karen) kept Doris away from food and water for the first hour or so... and was very interested in the food in my hand but would not get too close. Once they went to bed in their temp coop I did squeeze my hand in the give them each a nice little pet. I’m looking forward to bonding with them more

Raising chickens is definitely fun and exciting!! I’m ONLY 6 weeks in and I got myself into this Newbie Chicken Math Syndrome (just learned about it not long ago lol)! Started with 4 hens and 3 chicks and now I’m somehow stuck with 15 chickens, different age groups and it’s been crazy but very fun and challenging at the same time! Members of this forum have been so helpful! Don’t get so crazy like we did, it’s soooo tempting to buy more chickens lol! Even now, we want to buy more chickens

I think most people brush off how attached and crazy they can be to something as simple as a chicken...now that you have 2 (and more on the way) you've caught the chicken bug! Watch out that chicken math doesn't get ya too hard

I know! I started with 4 pullets - being raised in my friend’s brooder... then one ended up being a rooster. So added the 2 hens so I’d have eggs right away and so the hen/rooster ratio would work out better. Already having to talk myself out of 3 whiting true blue pullets because we just don’t have the room right now! Oh and I’m also due to delivery my 3rd son in 6 weeks what am I thinking??? But I’m so happy, I told my husband today, just having them today was such a joy! I’m definitely looking forward to this chicken journey.

Congrats on your pregnancy !! And tell me about it!! I had no idea chickens could make me and my kids this happy...they really are a joy to have around!!

They get spoiled with the fresh eggs. My mom calls my daughter an 'egg snob' because she hates store bought eggs Ha!!!
