Hi Everybody! My name is Kriston and I live on 40 acres in Western Kentucky. DH (of 20 years) and I bought this place a year ago. I was raised on a farm and had chickens during my childhood, but suprisingly I remember quite a bit about them. We have 3 children, two of which are still at home. DS is still in elementary school and our friend and local farm supply store owner called and said his DS was taking 2 chicks to school for show and tell. He knew we were planning to get chickens this spring, and he couldn't take the pullets back into the store once they left, so he asked if we would like to take them home. We said OF COURSE! So, I brought them home, put them under the light, and started building a coop!
Anyhow, we just finished our chicken coop, and the fence will be put up next week. I've accumulated several more chicks over the past few weeks too!
Our flock:
1 Buff Orpington
15 Rhode Island Red
15 Araucanus
10 Golden Laced Wyandot
6 Silver Wyandot
5 straight run chicks - one of which is booted w/feathered shanks!
8 unknown chicks that a local school teacher hatched in her class several weeks ago and begged me to take
DUCKS:
4 peking ducks
2 mallard ducks
ON ORDER:
6 guinea hens
2 turkey
I am so happy that I found this forum today. This place is such a great source of information, and I'm glad to be here among so many knowledgable folks! Thank You for sharing your opinions, advice, and knowledge! With any luck I'll have lots of healthy hens and tasty eggs within the next few months!
