Aloha everyone!
My name is Fred and have been raising chickens in Central Oahu for about 4 years. We started out with 6; Red Sex links, 1 Gold Sex link, 2 Easter Eggers, and a Rhode Island Red. Recently we lost Scrub and Goldie, and Naked is going downhill, but they are the Sex links and we now know that they are bred to be egg laying machines, which they were as well as great pets. The Easter Eggers (Scratchy and Fluffy) and the Rhode Island Red (Red)and still doing great and we still get plenty of eggs. They live on our yard(9,600 sq. ft.) and roam freely- they have a large coop that is always open and come and go as they please. We also just leased a 2 acre farm and I took the plunge with 8 Broad Breasted White Turkeys which will live there once they feather out. If that works out we will go for some heritage turkeys and maybe a few dozen assorted egg layers, hopefully Marans. Anyway, just wanted to check in. Loooking forward to learning and sharing.
Mahalo and Aloha,
Fred
