I hatched out some little and very cute Buff Laced Sebrights last summer. They are adorable. I got 4 to hatch but having them in the brooder with bigger chicks, I ended up losing 2 of them. I thought all along that I had 2 pullets, one with the rosecomb and one with a single. I have gotten 2 eggs on some days and they seem to be distinctively different shapes, so I was SURE I had 2 pullets. However, one is a darker shade of buff than the other, but knowing there are differences in shades of coloring, I thought nothing of it, especially when I would get 2 eggs a day some days. Today I am working in the garage where I have these two and I hear a strange crow, not from the two Silkie roos I have in there. I finally turn around and find this little darker Sebright crowing!!!! What the heck????? I have a pair!?!?!?! Well, I have never seen them breeding, and I have only ever heard/seen the lighter one on an egg. So, I am saving the next few eggs and putting them in the incubator to double check what the heck is going on. Either I have a girl who crows or I have a girl who lays 2 eggs a day sometimes!! Holy crap! Now, I just wish the one didn't have that stinking single comb!
This is the suspected cockerel: ( I couldn't get a really good shot because it wouldn't hold still long enough )
And the suspected 2 egg layer:
And just to be clear, I know these are not show birds, they are purely in my possession to attempt to make my oldest brother jealous that I have chickens and he does not. Sebrights are his favorite breed, and even though Silvers are his most favorite variety, when I saw these listed I thought they came close enough to tease him with. Then he let loose that he also likes Birchen Modern Game Birds. Well, well, well....guess what I just happened to get with a mixed batch from a notable chicken breeder about 7 weeks ago? AND it is a little pullet. Imagine that!
He threatened to tell Mom, but she is hard of hearing, so she isn't going to hear his whining.
