It ate the rear end !!

I live North of Atlanta about 40 minutes. This morning my wife went to collect the eggs and found broken eggs, dead chicken with backside eaten out. It had been dragged out of its house but left in the pen. It still had a head. According the the article it sounds like a weasel but I was wondering what kind of weasels we have here. Also if the raccoon has full access to the chickens will it still just eat the head.

I know that an opossum will eat the ass end and guts out of a chicken and leave everything else.

Will the opossums usually come back night after night.

Oh yeah, as with most preds, they will keep on coming till you a) get a safe place for the birds b) get rid of the predator. I do both just in case.

I cannot fathom the suffering of your poor hen.
That monster should be punished, why cant they kill from the front first like most animals do.
Hyenas do it this way too, just cruel.
Im sorry for your little hen.
Hope he cant get to them again.
