(Whew, I am finally able to get some internet! I wrote this last night but wasn't able to post it, it doesn't really affect any other characters so I'll just continue this morning like I did manage to post it.)
Once Jem was clear of the inn and outside, she turned away from Christof and looked back at the blocked door. "Chris, we can't just leave them like that." She protested as they half walked, half jogged to the stable to get their horses. "That boy, Glenn, was helping us beat that evil man. The least we can do is return the favor."
Christof didn't stop walking, and only hesitated when Jem raised her voice. "Chris! Please, it isn't right!"
"What do you want me to do?" He finally turned around and threw up his hands, frustrated. "Bust down the door with my bare hands and wrestle the knife away from him before he can slit the girl's throat, all while somehow dealing with those two other boys? Come on Jem, lets get out of here while we have a chance!"
Jem looked at her feet. They had been running for months, and she was tired of it. "No, it isn't right. Whatever trouble they are in, they are no different from us. Wouldn't you have wanted someone to stand up for us while we were in the dirt? Sleeping in slums, starving in caves... hiding." She started to turn back to the inn. "I won't go with you."
"Jem," Christof pleaded, quickly following her. He realized she wasn't going to change her mind. She was stubborn that way. "Okay fine... but we can't go in through the front door. How else can we get into the lobby? The windows are barred too!"
"What about the room windows?" She looked up and pointed with her face towards their second floor room. "I left the window open a little bit, to keep the air cool inside while it rained. I'm sure we could push it open from the outside..."
