It came from outta nowhere!!!

Hello Dr. C The video was wonderful. It is amazing how those chickens love and trust you. The black rooster came running to jump into your hand....so many people on here dream about having a rooster like that. I know the time will come when the church will dispose of your "family" of chickens. Maybe you can't build a coupe for them where you live, but what about a family members house? Think about it....How will you feel when they're all gone? Even if you can't "save" them all....you do have your special ones. Thanks for the video....it gives us all something to strive for with our own chickens.

Hey, a quick update for you all.

Last week, 4 of the chickens disappeared. One was not in my video, but similar to the mama chicken, kind of a light brown, golden color. Very friendly.

The other 3 were one of the white speckled chickens, the white one that got up on my hand, and the rooster I didn't like (the ttle of the post rooster than came from nowhere!)

It's unusual for me to be missing them all so suddenly. My guess is that local kids (with nothing better to do) came to catch them. I still have hopes that the light brown one might just be away nesting. I'm gonna miss my white friendly one...

I really wanna build a coop at my house, but the trouble to do it with such limited space and bitc-- er, complaining neighbors may not want them around as much as I do.

I'm also not sure aside the companionship factor, they'd be willing to give me eggs. I was always curious if eggs from wild chickens would be edible, though I don't see why not. They don't seem like everyday layers...

I have no other relatives on the island. Even if I were to find another home for them here on the island, while we don't have so many wild dogs or cats (that would harm or dare to challenge the chickens), and no snakes or coyotes, we do have mongoose. Those sneaky, quick, viscious little hard-to-catch rodents are all over, it'd be really hard to find a mongoose-free environment.

I'm not too concerned about the creation of a coop. I'm far from having it super pretty, just effective. I'm more worried about keeping my lovlies confined in a 6x4 cubicle as opposed to the huge roaming area they have at the church (which, despite being a limited life, you have to admit, IS a good life).
How many of you keep your chickens confined yet happy?
