So, I ordered furniture, like 3 weeks ago. DH and I work in town an HOUR from home. So, because of that, I stayed in VERY close contact with the shipping co this entire time to ensure that someone could be available at home to inspect and sign for the delivery... We had an appointment for TOMORROW morning at 10, so I took the time off and everything was golden.
I just got a call from the trucker, he's at my house, I am customer service today, there is NO way in HE** that I can get away today, NO WAY. I told him, um, we have an appointment for tomorrow, you're not supposed to be there. He says "O yeah I saw that, but whoever you talked to messed up because we dont deliver on Fridays." ---WHAT!? REALLY? You didnt think to CALL ME when you noticed the error and tell me that you will be coming today!?! I told him we work an hour away, he's like "Huh, thats too bad." so I am scrambling to find SOMEONE to go there... BIL has a broken back, he cant help... Stepdad is a heart patient, he cant lift.... I ma having stepdad go out anyway to sign for it, and I guess it can sit in the flippin driveway till I get home.... I really need to cuss or smoke RIGHT NOW and I dont do either on a regular basis at ALL.... I can feel an ulcer developing, my hands are shaking, and I'm breaking out in a cold sweat of rage!
How could they not call me when they saw the mess up!?!?

Lets be calm

Its only furniture..

I know its exciting to get new stuff and getting it today would seem better than monday but you will still be getting it!
Plus wouldnt it be an awesome way to start off the week?

ugh, that is frustrating. Customer service has gone the way of the dodo in retail. Well, the good news is they have your furniture. Dh and I picked out a bedroom set before he left for Afghanistan, when he was home for our baby's birth the first week of February. They told us it would be in stock for delivery in April, first week. Got a postcard that they will have it Mid-May(exactly what it said) and have heard nothing. BUT, with dh deployed a new baby and 6 other kids I still have to find time to paint the room

. Hope you figure something out, good luck

I know how frustrating it can be when you try your darndest to plan things out to a "T". It's also a challenge when you commute to work and you cannot leave work. My husband said to me the other day "just leave work early". Yes, I'm a nurse. I cannot "just leave work early", who would take care of the patients?!? And this is my husband that said this!!! (Sorry, I'm still irritated by that comment he made!!!)

When stuff like this happens, I keep telling myself "This will work out somehow, this will work out somehow". Then complain to the company and let them know how much it upset you while you were at work, and how your stepdad has health issues but had to go out and sign for it. At least that's what I would do... Hang in there. It just galls me that when you do your best to have things work out, somebody has to go and mess it up, and then it gets put right back on you, as if to say, "Not my problem. You figure it out!" AARRGGHH!

See, I'm not that nice. I'd tell them that you have an appt. for tomorrow and they need to be there then because there's no way you can get there today to meet them. They messed up, not you. They can leave it on the truck overnight or drop it at storage and pay someone else to bring it out. Not your problem. If you let someone else sign for it and then get home and find broken corners or scratches or any other problem you're going to have a bigger fight on your hands because someone accepted it on your behalf without noting the issues. Skip talking to the delivery guy and call the office.

Well I just got off the phone with my stepdad. The truck couldnt back into our driveway, so SD back up our pickup and they transferred each piece one at a time and put them in the garage. SD called to tell me that there were 3 layers of plastic and a cardboard shield around each piece, so he took those off to examine and said everything is perfect. I trust SD, he is one of those sticklers for details. Whew!

I'm not even close to being that nice.

I would of offered to let them keep the furniture. Remember, they need to
sell it worse than you need to buy it.

I run trucks. A delivery appointment is just what it sounds like. Within reason,
an hour or so either way. But you probably contracted for the new furniture to
actually be set up and functional INSIDE your home. Not the garage. Unless the
furniture company has someone coming to carry the furniture inside your home?

As far as not being able to back a truck onto your driveway? Depends. Was it a
hugh tractor-trailer? Surely not? A straight truck more than likely. How long is your
driveway? Again, their responsibilty. In the household moving business, we called
this a "long-carry" and there was an additional charge. First 100 feet free, an additional
charge for every 75 foot, or part of, thereafter. (A company truck is responsible for any
damage they may do to your property while delivering....even the electric truck, phone
man or whomever. I've bought a few driveways here and there. No longer allow my trucks
on private property.)

But it's delivered now. Besdt you can do is call the company and discuss a minor refund.

And I would.

Sorry for your trouble. I know how frustrating it can be.

Problem is that the furniture wasnt delivered by the furniture co. It was delivered by Magnum, who was contracted by the website I got it from. Its an Ashley set, so I thought an Ashley truck would bring it, but since I got it from a website the delivery was a huge cluster ____.
Magnum, not being the actual furniture company, and just being contracted, made it clear to me that they didnt even have to help us get it off the truck if they didnt want, which I thought was rude... but really my main issue is the delivery date. DH knows the local terminal manager for Magnum so I am going to have him talk to them.
