Wao! My turkey hen has started laying during the weekend, the first in its life (as it was brought to me 2 months old) though there was no tom until last Thursday 2nd March, 2017. The question is can the eggs hatched being that the tom was brought to the flock 3 days before the laying? How long will it takes to have a fertile eggs after mating?

My experience is that even with regular breedings that the first egg is usually not fertile. If the hen was already laying before getting bred, it takes several days before the eggs are fertile. If your hen got bred the first day that the tom was there, her eggs could be fertile now.

Good luck.

Please can mice temper with my turkey eggs? I've been seing them at the area where my turkey hen chosed to lay her eggs though i cleared the surrounding and made some good nesting for her.

Make sure that you are not feeding anything near the nest.

I have not had mice bother any eggs but then all my poultry hunt and eat mice. During the winter of 2015-2016, I had voles work their way into my guinea coop. By the time I was ready to deal with them in the spring there were no more voles. The guineas had gotten every single one of them.

Good luck.

Congrats! I got my first egg from my Bourbon Red just a few days ago as well!

Quote: A sweetgrass is a breed of turkey. Here's a link to one hatchery that sells them. http://www.porterturkeys.com/sweetgrass.htm

Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys is a great place to learn about the different color varieties of heritage turkeys. Just hover the More button and select which variety that you want to view.
