it is still legal to sell sheep & goats in Tennessee?

I don't think the tags they where giving away had anything to do with scarpies .. it sounds like they are finding tricky ways to possibly get farms signed up for NAIS.

Wrong. She said that it wasn’t about Scrapie. They just want to be able to trace the animal back to me in case it gets sick.

That's exactly how I feel, Varisha. So does this farmer.

I deleted the farmer's name from the email to protect his privacy. He wasn't forced to use the tags before when he sold his livestock, that's the point. It's the whole "give the USDA or NAIS an inch and they'll take...." scenario. More of the Land of the Fee hogwash instead of Land of the Free.

here in Canada all sheep and cattle need to be tags with goverment approved tags so they can be traced back to the orginal farm. If they are brought to the local auction they are tagged there for a small fee. Goats are not yet being tagged, but I have read that it maybe in the works. Only the producers of the lambs and calves have to worry about the tags, and if you loose one on the animals you need to replace it. I know there is talk about scapies here, but I'm not sure how far they have gotten here. This is all because of the Mad Cow thing and the US would not open the border unless there was a system they can use to trace cows back to the farm of orgin.
