seriously .....
This was such a good story I had to share with everyone, so I will shorten it, I love to receive my issues of The Kentucky Explorer Magazine, old pictures & stories from folks about kin and friends from the good ole' days. If you live or lived (have kin from) in KY, ( or if you just enjoy good stories, the good old days, and old pics) I suggest getting a subscription you will not be sorry.
Now this story was told by an old timer who frequents the old coutry store porch on a regular basis with all his himhaws and stories, so they ain't fer sure if it is even true. But it is a good one.
A lady (will call her Lizzie) had purchased some chicks from the store catalog, and was picking them up at the train, upon arrival of the train and receiving her package she opened it, and the hatchery had sent the wrong kind of chicks, they were not the usual yellow chickens she usally received. Anyway they were chickens so she took em' home and set them up in the coop. She noticed as they were growing they were not fancy on staying in the coop and roosting at night they would stay in the trees nearby. At first she would try and shoo them into the coop, but with so many to shoo she just gave up and gave in. Now a couple of counties over was a family whose daddy was ill and he was unable to tend to his family so, many folks were bringing them food and supplies to help them out. It was taking a while for their dad to get well. In the meantime after the chicks had grew over a few months a storm started brewin' up and of course those chickens stayed in the trees. Lizzie thought those were the dumbest birds
. Anyway a tornado came by a swooped up most of those chickens and plum carried them two counties over to where the ill man lived. He and his family thought their prayers had been answered looking out the window it was literally raining chickens, they were praisin' the Lord for His blessings and they were eatin' good, all those eggs and fresh chicken, it did'nt take long for their daddy to get well after that and he told everyone about it raining chickens and the Lord answering their prayers, he knows all that good food helped him get better.
