After losing 2 hens INSIDE THE COOP without the predator every being able to get in, I decided that a warning system was in order.
Below is a photo of the wireless alarm that I installed. We set it when all are safely in their coop in the evening and then disarm it when we go out in the morning to let them out.
When tested, the bantam 5 month old babies were able to set it off walking around near it, so I'm hoping it will work to warn us of nighttime predators. I think it's mostly racoons, but we do have fox, bobcats, possums, etc....SEE NEW POST BELOW
