Itchy hen

I just yesterday saw a hen pull a nice scratch. I have always seen them scratch their heads with their feet. But this hen wiped her face back and forth on a limestone paver like she was sharpening a knife. Pretty funny stuff.

My birds do that too. You wouldn't believe the things they wipe thier beaks on.

I love it when they do things like that. I've seen some of my chicks do the swiping thing, but I just figured they were either looking for chow, or wiping their faces off. Somehow it never occurred to me that chickens can get an itch!
