Itchy

Aww...Mayberry, I feel so bad for you.

I'd use the 'hugs' emote, but...well, I HATE poison ivy and even the emote's too close for comfort...

When I was a child, I got poison ivy very bad one summer. I think I had it everywhere. My mother used vinegar and salt. Put it all over me and it dried it up nicely. I have not had poison ivy since. (Knock on wood)

I'll chime in here- I've always heard (and obeyed) the cold water, multiple soap-up and rinse cycles, theory of Fels Naptha soap. The idea is that you want to get it off your skin without encouraging your pores to open up or your skin to soften up- that is why you want cold water.

There is also this product called "Tecnu" that I've used to get the oils off, with some success. It is an oily solvent that bonds to the poison ivy oils and then the mixture washes off cleanly. I typically use both Tecnu and Fels Naptha to be sure if I know I've been exposed.

Been awhile since I've even talked about Poison Ivy. But I think it's extremely hard to get rid of. I think I heard, that even if you wash your clothes, it could spread to other washables in the wash. There's still a possibility of getting it all over again. About the best thing to do would prolly be to burn your clothes, lol. I don't think I've ever had it, thank God. But I know cousins who have gotten into it. They didn't think it was pretty, ouch!

Stupid me!! I was out near the woods putting up a fence for the chickens and every once in a while I would reach down and dig in the moist soil for a worm to feed them, well, I got into a place where I knew had poison Ivy, but forgot. They really arn't up here yet, but somewhere in the soil was a potent plant. I use an anti itch spray and then calamine lotion. It's been a week now and it's slowly drying up on my arm but still itches.

I couldn't find the Naptha soap here in Mayberry. My old remedy of soap and bleach and cold water seems to have done the trick...although the bleach isn't the healthiest of choices, I'm sure.
Update...tonight, the little bugger jumped right up into the coop...

Try some Preparation H on any lesions. It sounds strange, but I had a doctor tell me to use it on spots I developed after cleaning up after my ducks. It worked great. No itching and it dried things up pronto.
