Asking for some advise....We received our meat birds this week and there was one "free" chick with them that is not for meat. We have a young flock of layers all about 6-8 months old. I am not sure how to integrate just the one little one. I have some creative ideas but no experience. I don't want to pull it too soon from the others so it gets lonely and cold. But the others will get big quick and also require different nutrition. Can anyone give me some ideas? it is only about 3 days old.

Is there anyone nearby with chicks that are about the same age? It would make sense to have someone adopt the chick . . . someone who already has a group of chicks that this chick could bond with.

I might pick out one or two of the meat birds to integrate with it, it's going to be about 2 months before you do, by then your older hens will be more mature and shouldn't bother them too much, start by moving them into a separate pen in the coop and let them stay locked up for a week or two than start letting them out under supervision. You could than remove the meat birds when you see the chicks have been accepted, or at least that's how I would do it.
