A quick note to say Happy New Year to all our thousands of friends here at BYC. 2009 was incredibly amazing for the trend toward raising backyard chickens and our wonderful community was on the forefront of that movement.
As a community we accomplished a TON of amazing things in one short year. For some more detailed info about all the many things we did this year you can either view the BYC History or read through all our newsletters .
Here are some of the really amazing highlights:
Started 2009 with about 20,000 members and ended the year with over 46,000 members (more than double in one year!)
On January 1 2009 we had about 1.25 million posts... a TON for almost any online community... this almost tripled to an amazing 3.25 million posts by the end of the year... CRAZY!
The release of "Raising Chickens for Dummies" the official raising chickens how-to book of BYC.
The release of the BYC Community Cookbook with over 400 community submitted recipes.
The creation and growth of the BYC Chicken Breed database
The addition of over 300 pages to our chicken coop designs system
We also hit an amazing new record of the most users online ever at: 979 on Tue Apr 7, 2009 6:30 pm PST. We've decided to start this new year with a reset of this number so we can watch with excitement as we start a new year with a set of new records to beat, so keep an eye on that counter at the bottom of the forum index!
We've got a lot of exciting things planned for 2010 and look forward to your participation in the fun we're going to have. Thank you for being a part of our amazing community and for sharing the joy of raising backyard chickens with so many people!
