Sometimes chickens can be sly when they mate and you'd never know it was happening.

Indeed.

I only ever saw Ludwig mate twice despite him definitely fathering many chicks for me.

The funny thing is he's very much the top rooster, with the other two best described as a Beta rooster and Pet, lol. Until recently, the banty hen preferred Sunspot by a LOT. She'd follow him every where, and whenever the banty roo tried mounting her she'd get vicious!
My theory is that when she was still sexually immature she went for the guy who didn't want it. Now, she's older and bored! Out of the 3 roosters, the only one who mates is the banty. I think Sunspot allows it...that sounds so weird. Sunspot is a special bird!!

The adventure continues!
Sunspot and entourage will be traveling with me down to a friend's farm, where my other chickens are staying. Washington didn't work out as a long-term home, but it was fun! Onwards traveling chickens!
