I am having an open house celebration party next sat.and want some good home cooked food.We are celebrating 3 kids got through hi school and my dh and I didn't get divorced and my youngest is graduating from hi school!!Any crowd pleasing but not hard recipes? Also cake recipes I will make the cake.

Macaroni and cheese

Marinated and grilled flank steak, for making into DIY sandwiches.

Potato or pasta salad

Beer... always beer.

Let's think of things that require little to no cooking the day of your party....
Pickled eggs could be done this weekend and be perfect by party day.
You could get the things together for a torte the day before then assemble the day of or night before easy peasy.
Shishkebab (sp) are great for day before prep to marinade then toss on grill for great presentation.
Taco salad works for my crowd....prep before and toss day of.
Twice baked potatos.

Most of all, have a great time with your family and friends and celebrate!

I second the beer.... : lol: And hot wings usually go over well. Or another wing recipe i have is: 1/2 olive oil, 1/2 soy sauce, few cloves of garlic minced, grated ginger root, salt, pepper. Marinate the chicken in that mixture. The longer the better. Then grill or bake. Really yummy!

Garlic Artichoke Dip.

3-4 cloves garlic peeled
2 cans (8oz ea) artichoke hearts drained
1 c grated parmesan cheese
1 c mayonnaise
juice of 1 lemon
dash of tobasco
fresh veggies, chips, crackers, bread (any or all) for dipping

Put everything in the food processor and buzz until artichokes are medium fine. Place in a baking dish and bake at 350 for aprox 30 mins or until golden brown on top.

I throw it all into a tallish container and use my stick blender - quicker and easier clean up.

It can be made ahead of time and served at room temperature.

We had a large party for 2 sons last Sunday. Grilled Hamburgers, hotdogs, brats. Served homemade Pasta Salad, macaroni salad(don't have her recipe but my mommy makes the best) and hot german potato salad (I make the best) as sides. Had a veggie tray, cheese tray, fruit and chips and dip for appetizers. Salads were made the day before. Hubby grilled the meat and it was easy.

Pasta salad:
1 lb spaghetti, cooked
1 small can black olives, sliced
1 can sliced mushrooms
16 oz 7 seas viva italian dressing (we prefer Aldi's brand Italian)
1 lb pepperoni
McCormick Salad Supreme Seasoning
1 green pepper, chopped
1 green onion, sliced
1 jar pimentos

Mix together and chill

Hot German Potato Salad:(kept it warm pan on the grill as it's much better hot)
2 pounds red potatoes, unpeeled
water
6 slices bacon (we use pepper bacon)
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tsps sugar
2 tsps salt
1 tsp flour
1/8 tsp pepper
3 tbsps red wine vinegar

Quarter potatoes and simmer for 20 minutes or until tender. Drain and cool slightly. Cook bacon in a skillet and drain on paper towels. Spoon off all but 2 tbsps bacon fat from skillet. Add onion. Cook for 5 minutes. Stir in sugar, salt, flour and pepper until well blended. Gradually add red wine vinegar and 1/2 cup water. Cook, stirring until thickened and boiling. Gently stir in potatoes and bacon. Heat through and transfer to warming pan until eaten. 6 servings.

We double or triple these recipes depending on the number of guests.

Good luck!

We love Protein Bombs- both as a high protein snack for diabetic hubby and a pick-me-up you can grab from the fridge:

Peel hard boiled eggs, halve and pop out yolk- save for dogs, chickens, etc.

Pipe hummus into center- plain, roasted red pepper, greek olive, etc.

This is a huge winner, because you can serve like deviled eggs, but there's no cholesterol and yet they're fantastic!

Another is the dessert I always bring to 4th of July parties- I use blueberries and strawberries for that, but you can use any berries you love. Make sure you wash and drain the berries well so they don't get the cream runny.

Whip 1 quart of whipping cream until fairly stiff, then fold in 2T honey. Fold in 2-3 quarts strawberries and 2-4 pints other colored berries. Just depends on how much cream you want them in- I like it to just cover them in a cream glaze.

Serve over pound cake or layered into angel food or sweet biscuits. I even serve it on a rustic pie crust- just make a pie crust, lay it into a bowl shape empty with no pie plate, glaze it with egg wash and brown cane sugar, bake it and then toss berries on when cool. Serve open and sloppy!

Hmmmm... I'd leave the yolk and pipe the hummus on top. Heck, I'd pipe the hummus right in to the old pie hole - I love the stuff. THere you go... give each person a squeeze tube full of hummus and tell them to have fun.
