It's all My Fault. :(

any of us would've done what you did, it's not your fault, you didn't knowingly put them in harm's way.
unfortunately, the down side to lots of land is lots of predators. I have a friend who free ranges her chickens on 120 acres, she started with 25 chickens last spring and is now down to 2(mainly because of dogs)

we like to think we can always protect our flocks all the time no matter what, and the reality is that things happen, fast. but we do the best we can, and I believe you did the best you could and therefore you have no need to blame yourself. hindsight is 20/20, when we know better we do better.

that doesn't make it any less sad, and I'm sorry for your loss
