It's been 12 hours

The chick typically still has a huge amount of yolk left to be absorbed at the time they pip. It is not until the yolk is drawn inside, the umbilicus closes up and the blood vessels wither that the chick can survive outside the shell. This process can take quite a while. I have a hatch going on right now and some have been pipped since yesterday and they are still not out. They are just fine.

Good luck with the hatch.

Glad to hear they are starting to come out! I just finished my latest hatch and have a good example. One egg that was one of the first to pip about 36 hours ago was one of the last to hatch this morning. When it did it zipped and was out in less than 5 minutes. The rest pipped and then hatched about 18-24 hours later and took about 10 minutes or so. Every chick is different and they really know when it is right to come out. Good luck with the rest of your hatch!
