Her dad was a black jersey giant and her mum was a very small buff sussex, who only laid her first egg a month or so ago.
I had to help her hatch because she seemed stuck and was crying like mad, real desperate squeals and very tightly packed in. I figured jersey giants are such a large breed and the eggs were so small, probably wasn't the best idea...but they're both really happy and healthy and basking under the light now.
Betty externally pipped yesterday morning, and by this morning, she'd made a slightly bigger hole but sounded very upset, but I left her to it.
I was upstairs when I suddenly heard REALLY loud crying from downstairs and it really sounded like she was getting desperate.
I used tweezers to pry the shell off bit by bit, there were no veins with blood in at all, all dried up, I pulled off one big bit and her head pinged back and her body rolled out onto my hand, she stretched her legs out and started kicking frantically, then I put her back in the 'bator to fluff up. She was very loud and went from smashing around and knocking the other eggs around, to passing out almost instantaneously, haha...very cute
I just had to sell my cockerel yesterday because the neighbours were politely starting the mention his incredibly loud crowing...so I'm glad I've got 2 of his offspring, and possibly a third on the way!
