It's Day 18 - Hatch on April 8th!

Wow 80K a week...I had no idea Meyer produced those numbers. Looks like will have new members here soon as the chicken fad grows. How long has your hatch been going now?

I am at 48hrs with 5 hatched out of 17 and lost 1 pipe. These are shipped eggs but I expected a little better than 30%.

Good luck as your day continues!

Day 23 for me. I have 4 chicks out, 3 eggs left that still do not show signs of life. Since these chicks were so slow to pip and hatch I am going to give the eggs another day. Last night I took the hatched chicks out and put them into the brooder-they look so lonely in there, just the 4 of them. But oh, they are the cutest little Welsummers.

I do have Buckeyes due to hatch in 2 weeks, hopefully I will get a better result with those-they're Buckeye Dave's

My first pip was around 10 am on April 8th (Day 21) - that chick died without hatching but I take full responsibility - very sadly. I still have chicks hatching so we are at 48 hours with one chick ready to come out and about 6 more eggs with new pips.

Well, my final egg was a quitter, so the movement I was seeing was probably gas bubbles repositiong when I picked it up to candle. But hey, 13 of 14 hatched! I'm so happy for that! Tomorrow someone is trading me some cochin eggs for 4 of my polish chicks. (My husband said no more chickens, not 'no more eggs'

Final stats of my hatch. I had 7 hatched and 2 pipped that never hatched. Here is a picutre of the chicks now happy and doing well in the brooder. My hatch lasted 4 days, my first pipe was at 6:30 am on Wednesday April 8th Day 21 and my last chick hatched on Saturday April 11th Day 24 at 10:00am. It was along drawn out ordeal but the new chicks are worth it.

Four chicks total for me. The other three eggs never even pipped. But my four little Welsummers are doing great, healthy and happy!

I am overall thrilled with my hatch - it was a slow pip and zip hatch spanning more than 50 hours from the first pip but the chicks that hatched have been a real joy - especially Rambo who was wrapped in moistened paper towels for some eight hours from the time I tried to help - thought for sure that chick was a goner and when he hatched on Day 24, I was ecstatic!

I have a big group of chicks but I love each one of them - I am chick addicted.

I will be setting another group of eggs next Monday or Tuesday but all those chicks (which will be hatched in the classroom) will be going back to the Amish family that I have come to adore!

Littlelemon, teddiliza & Hen and Chicks,

Thank you all for taking the hatching trip with me. Not many of my friends understand why I, "mess with chickens" so it nice to share the experience with people that do understand. Congrats to all of us that hatched new chicks! It was a great Easter for many reasons!
