It's finally spring!!!

Holy cow! We just had blizzards for the last week! I'm taking a break from shoveling the driveway (which is 1/3 mile long). Spring???!? Where???
Lol!

I'm glad y'all are enjoying it, and I hope it gets here soon!

Ah, so that's where my normal winter ran off to! 🤭 Usually we'd have had a good few snowstorms by now here, a week or more around 0°F or lower mid-February, and a solid covering of snow for more than a month by now. It's been so bizarrely warm all winter with just a couple spikes down into frigid temps. Probably does not bode well for the mosquito population this summer. 😬

It's not normally this wonky here. We get snow, but not usually this much all at once. This is after we got nearly 30 in of rain in Dec/Jan.

And this was just issued:

I live at about 3100'. We got several feet already this week. I know that's not much for other areas of the country/world, but we are completely snowed in at the moment. Trees are down. Roofs are caving in. Power is out for most of the area (not here, though). Idk how you all who get weather like this regularly deal. I couldn't even get out of my house today.

But I feel like I cannot keep talking and being happy and about spring without mentioning the recent tragedy we experienced. Some time during the night two trains, one containing passengers, crashed. In this devastating collision, there have been around 35 deaths reported, with the number still increasing, many people have not yet been found, and many more are hospitalized. Most of the passengers were students. This is a devastating time for all Greeks, this particular route is very popular, so it literally could have been anyone. I want to keep this thread light hearted, but I just feel that it would dishonor all the people who lost their lives. Strength to each family that lost a loved one❤
I saw that on the news. Didn't realize you lived in Greece. Are they saying what caused the accident yet? I know one train hit the other but why? Prayers for all affected

How warm do your summers get, and how many mosquitoes do you get?

There have been many things said, but the root is that no one paid attention to the workers when they said that things need to be fixed, because accidents are going to happen. They've been saying that for months. The station master has been arrested, but most people are not happy with that. But the exact reason the two trains crashed is because someone, though there has not been a confirmed reason as to why (and if I'm being honest there probably won't be) didn't turn the key at the right time for one of the trains to change tracks

Very sad

It truly is. It has shaken up the nation. Most are upset with the survivor testimonies. They are saying the had to help each other get out of the collapsed train wrecks, and they didn't have any doctors on site for about 45 minutes, no doctors, only minimal help from the ambulances that had arrived

Summers are in the upper 90s F. Mosquitoes are only really bad if you live near a pond or lake. We don't have either, so it's not like it is in the tropics.

Ooh at least you don't get a lot of mosquitoes, definitely jealous of that! Mosquitoes are definitely up there when it comes to things I passionately dislike
