I notice more and more posts about people putting in their order for chicks from various hatcheries, I was wondering...what is everyone thinking about ordering this spring?

We want a mixed flock of egg layers this year so I am putting in a 12 chick order to Ideal in a few weeks. I think I am going to go ahead and get 12 different breeds so that we will have a variety of looks. Right now I am thinking one of each of the following...

Buff Orpington
Mottled Java
Silver Lakenvalder
Blue Hamburg
Silver Spangled Hamburg
Black Sumatra
Salmon Favorell
Cream Brabanter
Silver Spangled Spitzenhauben
Columbian Wyandotte
Red Cochin
Spangled Russian Orloff

Fingers crossed that I get all pullets with such a mixed order.

Also thinking about adding a couple of female ducklings...one each of Khaki Cambell, Caygua and Magpie.

Since I am wanting a basket of colorful eggs, I am also planning to get 3 each of Americanas, Olive Eggers, and Blue Marans from a local breeder. She raises show quality chickens and breeds for nice rich colored eggs so I thought she would be the better choice to get a few of the colored egg layers from since egg color is important to me on them.

What are you all ordering and from where?

I just got my order of Swedish Flower hens chicks from Greenfire farms last week, I don't think I'll be ordering any more chicks this year I already have 11 different pens of Chickens...your ordering a great variety...your egg basket will be very colorful!...I like that. ~Charm1704
