It's going to be super cold.

School was canceled for two days! There is supposed to be snow even here in this part of Florida and the schools are closing because the roads might get black ice.

I'm not making fun of you personally Minxfox, just that I love how everything shuts down in winter if an inch of snow is found  I lived just SW of Philadelphia for a year. We got snow three times that winter, about 4-6" each time. Roads closed, grocery stores sold out of items like milk, eggs and bread. I just could never understand. I was only 7 hours from the Canadian border, and I couldn't buy milk for breakfast the next day cause everyone was worried they couldn't leave their homes if it snowed. No wonder we pass on the joke of living in igloos and changing over to our dogsleds when we cross back into Canada! Our roads were closed only because you actually wouldn't be able to see the car in front. I was just glad at least one of the roads opened so I could get my wife and newborn home from the hospital. I know that most of the US isn't that warm, just a foreign concept to me, that's all :p

Yep us folks on the coastal states are wooses, 50 degrees and we put the long johns on 40 we add sweat pants, 30 we stay inside , well i don't but many do

Are schools are also closed the hwy department here is not equipped to hand this kind of weather that is why folks are stranded, if it were a yearly occurrence it would be a different story but the last time we got a good ice storm was in 1997 and the last time we got deep snow 30 inches was back in the 1800's so you can see the dilemma .

Stay warm and stay safe my pea friends, i am riding this one out alone my DH will be stuck at the plant on fire watch.. he is one happy camper

It runs about 8 degrees warmer in our barn than outside as a rule, as long as there's no wind..so I'm hoping it won't be too bad...

It's -7 degrees here now,,-18 below predicted. Had to put in a new 250 heat bulb tonight in 2013 hatched peas building,,darn ornamental pheasants sometimes start flying around and a few hits and the filaments broke,,just $4.99 to replace,,propane here is now $4.40 per gallon, when we first filled our tank in September when it's the cheapest it was $1.69 a gallon,,saw on the news last nite many cities in Indiana have already used up all their snow removal funds for overtime and salt, and still 2 more months to g:hmmur furnace seems to run about 30-45 minutes out of an hour, especially when the wind blows hard. It's no picnic living on the flat farmland of the midwest.
