IT'S HOT. Don't forget to check on your birds!

I have fans in each of my coops. I have been giving them ice water with electrolytes in it. We aslo go out and mist them down several times a day. Tonight I really hated to close the door on the grow out coop but the run isnt all the way fenced in there is an area by the top that isnt covered yet, but I have 3 fans going in there. We dont have AC in the house either. Poor dogs I have been wetting down all evening. It is still 106 with the heat index and its 10:30. Please let this heat stop!

You can hose down the outside of the coop as well (roof) to help cool it down. I don't handle heat and humidity well at all and my heart goes out to others who are suffering. Thankfully my chicks are in the brooder in the basement, where the temperature is tolerable and the dehumidifier keeps the air dry. I am nervous about the 16 chicks that I have on order to be delivered Aug 2-4. Hoping we get a cold front that week, so they don't die in transit.

Here in central WI we are looking at 98 today. My girls have been doing well, even laying eggs pretty regularly. My coop/run is 100% shaded after about 8:30 am each day. I have two wading pools for them (they don't use it) as well as frozen water bottles. Watermelon on tap for a treat today!

That's quite a setup, spot! I did notice that my girls were panting as of yesterday. Some comments on recent posts; I like the kitty litter pan filled with water idea, will do that now. As for hosing down the coop and run, I hear that breeds unwanted insects. Many BYCer's don't have locations noted, but I guess it's hot EVERYWHERE. It stays 10 degrees cooler in the barn, so the poor girls may be locked in there until October...
