Hello!
Today marks the 37th anniversary of life. In celebration I joined this forum! Later today I'll be going to a community garden event. Self reliance is kind of a theme this year it seems. I've been following this forum for some time, I was introduced to it via Pinterest where I have been collecting ideas and information on ducklings.
I recently acquired four adorable pekin ducklings, they were hatched on May 20th. I had originally wanted Indian Runners but I have been unable to get them because of a quarantine due to New Castle disease. So, I went with what was readily available. I had given the hardware store my number to call me when they had ducklings in so it was a bit of a surprise when I got the call because I wasn't expecting it. I am in the process of building a duck run in my backyard. I live in a small city that's in the mojave desert. I have the perfect spot under a shady tree picked out. For the time being I have a kiddy pool but I will want to upgrade it as time and budget allow. I wanted ducks instead of chickens because of my garden. I wanted ducks because they will help with pest control, fertilizer, and they won't scratch up the garden like chickens will. I also liked that they will produce eggs longer than a chicken. I also love baking and I am very excited to bake with duck eggs.
So here I am! I look forward to learning!
