It's official, I have crossed over to the dark side...

There is a magnetic pull on me that I find myself heading out the door toward the chicken yard and coop. I often think to myself, "why am I heading this way?". To which I answer "to see my chickens, of course". I can spend hours just watching them, filling feeders, refreshing waterers, etc. Even my dog knows where I'm heading and gets there before me. He stands at the coop door, not because he is allowed to go in there but because he knows that is where I will end up.

OMG I am just reading this thread and can so relate! I just posted this on Hatching section... You know I think you are all nuts! All this excitement for chickens! OH NO I am coming over to the dark side too.... Listen I am getting so bad I have chairs set up next to the CackleBerry Castle and sit and watch. Better than TV. Even better with my grand kids. What will be next? Watching an egg hatch? The scary thing is I have now given up my porn sites for chickens!

I don't even have my chickens yet and I can't get enough of this site. I like perusing the site for tips on raising chickens.

I have no idea what my husband really thinks of me and my craziness for all the chickens that I have(41) and most of them are in a room in the house. I have learned a lot form this site and still learn more each and everyday that I am on here. Once I got my first chicken(was a rooster) I have never stopped getting, mostly hatching, more. I am always saving frog, toad and what ever from the dogs.

My hubby knows I'm nuts. I have 12 EE girls and four silkies. He thinks I spend to much time watching them. Since he doesn't care for the looks of either, he said we need some barred rocks. Went and got six of them and two brahmas today.

So he's a closet enabler

I found myself in the same position last night with a toad. It just makes me so happy to make them happy! I didn't sacrifice the toad though but I was sort of horrified with myself for even considering it! There was a gianormous palmetto bug in the house the other night (for those who don't know, traditionally this is an outdoor bug kin to the cockroach but huge) and instead of smashing it, I carefully trapped it so the girls could enjoy. How sick is that!??!

We had shrews in the house this spring. I'd catch them and toss them to the chickens. They are much quicker killers than me. Half a second and dead, another second and swallowed whole. I need to fence them around the mole hills. My birds don't touch any of the millions of frogs here yet. The dogs are another story. They go hunting and eating them in the marsh.

Birds wont touch what the dogs drop.

I'm an addict too!!! Now my husband is catching the addiction. He talks to the birds and treats them every night...LOL
