it's raining lice

No dead chickens this am! That is always a good sign. The coconut oil in a spray bottle worked like a charm. I did their fannies, under the wings and actually sprayed the straw under the perches with it (just in case). Everyone was fine with it and they all smell fantastic. Already fewer eggs on the feathers. I guess they just slip or fall off. It works great! Thanks for the awesome tip!

Wow, that's fascinating, I had never heard of the coconut oil treatment for lice. And as an added bonus, I bet your chickens smell like they're ready for a trip to the beach and a mai-tai!!

I only buy the UNREFINED VIRGIN COCONUT OIL, not sure if the Luann Walmart brand, which is refined, would work the same. The major bonus to using this stuff is their red raw fannies are almost completely better overnight.

I did the same with the oil/ tea tree combo, spraying it all over their nesting area and drenching their roosts.

We use a heck of a lot of coconut oil around here for a multitude of purposes. It's one of those God given plants that is medicinal in so many ways.

Coconut oil is solid up to 78 degrees then it's quite liquid. No problems in a spray bottle at all . . . just set it in a pot of warming water, or set out in the sun to really get it going.

Here is the update: I sprayed day 1, 7 and 14. NO MORE LICE! When I sprayed their fannies I also sprayed the straw under their nesting roosts and in the nesting boxes. No more lice. Thank you for the awesome tip.

The tea tree oil also helps reduce any smells in the hen house. I just keep a bottle mixed up in the barn. Seems to be keeping the flies at by as well.
