It's so cold out! My poor chickies!

I should probably add that mine are cooped 24/7.... Too many predators around and we both work full time..... THEY ARE MY BABIES!!!

Oh another funny - I took treats out today, and one of the younger pullets ran right out of the coop. I put the treats down and turned around to go catch her and she was outside the chicken wire absolutely freaking out. trying to fit her fat self through the wire!!!! She was very relieved when I put her back.

Mine have a 12x12 run, but they don't free range, because sure my dog is great at keeping the racoons and other predators away, but I'd have to leave him out with them as they free ranged, and I can't gurantee he won't attack them, because I know he will. He's just a dog.

-16?!

I would DIE if it ever got that cold here. We think we're dying when it gets down to 16 (supposed to be 20 tonight), can't imagine it being in the negative numbers. Shoot, we're supposed to warm up to 70 sometime this coming week. Typical NC weather - up, down, up, down, up, down...

Yeah we have one of those too, otherwise some of the predators would dig into the coop even though the base in line with buried rocks. We have done all we can to keep them out....

Now the weather website says it feels like -4F outside...

Hubby took a picture of me as I headed out to re-water the flock this afternoon. My ducks screamed when they saw me.. and lol.. the chickens were not too thrilled either, but not as scared as the ducks!
