So.... I have 7 LF of various breeds, 2 NHR, 3 EE and 2 mutts (mother and daughter) and I'm getting 2 to 3 eggs a day, never more and none one day a week. Including the occasional soft shell oops eggs we are contributing to the strange tasting chalky tap water out here, I had to switch over to tap water because my rain barrels aren't staying full since we've had no rain.
Any way.... one of the EE's and the younger mutt just started laying 3 weeks ago so I'm not expecting much out of them (though the EE is about every other day right now with banty sized pullet eggs and the mutt, well I've gotten 3 from her in 3 weeks). The older mutt, she gives me 3 to 4 a week tops, she's old but she makes good rooster chicks and she's really nice so she stays. BUT, until it warmed up out here we were getting 5 eggs each a week from the other 2 EE's that started laying right at Chirstmas and the NHR's were 6 to 7 eggs a week each. Totaling 22 to 24 a week from just those 4 birds! Now I'm getting 12 to 18 a week.
They don't free range, they can't stash them anywhere, I'm out there nearly every hour anyway because I'm working on things in the garden. We've stopped treats do to the shell issues but they do get chicken carcasses and other meats when we have them for extra protein. All molted in the fall except the EE's and the 2 young girls.
What gets me is that on the coldest days of the winter EVERYONE laying gave me an egg. Now it's hitting upper 80's and nada.
I think they are wanting an AC in the coop, Maybe? Or maybe it's the silkies wanting the AC and they have pulled the big girls into their devious plot?
