Its Time To NAME THAT EYE PROBLEM!!!Update: PG 11 bottom of Post #101

I have ONE BIRD - out of many - that also has eyes like the photo. She is eight weeks old. I isolated her & put her on Sulmet for one week. I did terrymycine ointment for another week. I have been doing the baby vitamins for, yet, another week.
No change.

Are there sometimes genetic problems with the eyes??????

I hadn't read every word on this thread.
Here is my 2 cents
I have a BC Marans Roo who has that look in his eye on one side. It was last summer, he was very sick. His eye swollen shut and blistered out around the eye. AFTER he got better, and was over that illness, he looked exactly like your bird in his eye. For my Roo, this is a PERMANENT. He is long over the illness that caused his eye to look like your birds eye. Yours might not be over this illness, but don't be surprised IF this is a permanant scar.
And seeing how expensive it is to have anyone do a test on a bird, I don't see you wanting to spend $90 on a test to find out.

They're getting more birds sick, so it's current. That's why they're testing - to prevent the expense of using the wrong meds to treat, the expense of losing birds, etc.

Check out this link for Denagard. Here in the US it is only approved for enhancing weight gain in swine but in over 100 countries world-wide it is approved for the treatment/prevention of MG.

LS-50 is approved for treatment/prevention here in the US.

The diference in the two drugs is that the LS-50 is of the same type used in humans while the Denagard is a different type of drug. So by theory any virus that builds resistance to the Denagard would still be treatable by the standard drugs in use.

Well, neither of the drugs are anti-viral so I'm going to assume that was just a type error

But wanted to point it out to avoid any confusion with other readers who might read this later.

I can find Denegard here, but it's around 80 dollars (at least, with shipping) to get it, which means delayed receipt time, and still we don't know for sure that this is MG versus something else. The product I found was given orally - I don't know about the drug itself. But I know that some antibiotics (Tylan is the first that comes to mind) are less effective given orally. Should be interesting to learn about the drug, though - it is indeed indicated on the US packaging for CRD in chickens "Prevention and treatment", it said.

Thanks for the info!

. Ma called the agricultural department and they said that they themselves don't have anyone to send out here to do the tests. Apparently the need a specimen from a very veterinarian!!! So I'm gonna keep looking up numbers and hopefully find someone that will do it. Did I miss something? I cant pay 90$ a bird. I have at least 80...no wait 135 or so counting my adult flock
