the cows have discovered the one chicken misting area that's not behind a fence. They are licking at it, desperate for water. The pond is on the other side of the farm; the smaller pond having dried up. Long way for them to walk.

It's 104* F out right now. The cows can't hurt it. I don't have the heart to run them off.

But don't nobody go getting any ideas that I like cows now.

If you set up the tank out there, they will come around more often, bringing in more problems for you and your chickens. I am sure they are pretty thirsty for them to go over where your chickens are at. Just don't let them. Pushing down fences would be your worst nightmares or they would start tearing at anything to get a drink of water.

I hope their owner will come to water them somewhere. Unless you see some dying or dead cattle, then time to call the authorities.

I provide our cows an 'alternate' water source, and they appreciate the supply of fresh water despite having a shady stream across our property. The older cows with mobility issues (arthritis) really appreciate having water nearby as they don't have to navigate the rocky slope to the stream. Less bugs, too!
