It's true.. I got day-old white chinese!

I have Brown Chinese and I just love them...two adult pair were given to me for my bd and then I managed to hatch three babies from them...the last one was a singleton...had to find him some buddies and thanks to Chickenzoo from BYC who had three ducklings, he has company...he is a chatter box and wants to be picked up and snuggled up whenever I go to their pen...

How young is to young?

Our little white chinese is been busy with the old boy in the neighborhood. I've seen them mating in the little kiddie pool in the back yard and today I found 2 eggs in a nest underneath the banana trees.

I quickly checked and our cochins lay brown eggs, so.....

We got here in Feb. so she is around 6 months old.

GEGChikies, your little ones are so cute!

Since people are posting their baby pictures I guess I'll post my little white chinese when she was 4 days old.

Here she is with her fawn and white runner broodsister:

What's her name?

I took angry older sister Luna up to look at them, and she got closer to them than usually.. I didn't know if she wanted to bite or snuggle them, so I kind of put my hand up between her and the box. She could look in, but not stick her big face in.

I need to figure out some way to introduce them safely.. Like plexiglass. I need a giant tank of plexiglass.

Her name is Ranaya and her little friend's name is Molly. Molly is very different than my other runners. She's quite bold. I think it's because she can hide under Ranaya when things go south

Can you make a little round pen out of chicken wire or something? That's how I introduced Ranaya and Molly to the older girls.

You're right about that, Jack grows over night, loads, he is getting such a big boy now at 7 weeks!!!

they could drown . . . without a mama goose, the babies will lack the oil from her feathers to coat them, and their down is like a sponge.

If they get wet, they can get chilled. Looks like you have them under a good heat lamp, so if they get wet playing in the water, they should dry off quickly.

Mine made such a mess with their water and food I had to dunk them in the tub when they were a week old. They LOVED the water (about three inches of it) and afterward, I dried them mostly with a towel and then put them under their red heat lamp to watch them preen for the first time

By the time they are two weeks old, they can maintain their body heat without a lamp, but they'll still need it when wet. At about a month old, they can hold their own even when wet, unless it is very chilly (no worries during summer).

Then by winter, they'll be bathing in ice water as if it were warm

They're still getting bigger.. I'm in love. Again. They're all getting personalities now.

Luna seems to be liking them, now. We took her and the babies outside, and she kind of skirted around their box and looked interested, not aggressive. I had one of them follow me, and they're literally like a teeny tiny toy!

I can't believe they'll grow up.. But soon enough, they'll lay their own eggs and I can have THOSE babies!
