While I had been considering chickens, I had questions. Almost everytime I googled a question, BYC came up. I am very appreciative of the info and insight. I chose breeds based on the info here regarding temprament, cold hardiness, and beauty. We have 8 chicks and are in the process of building our coop. I got all of our chicks from a local feedstore, supposedly pullets. My fingers are crossed, but so far, nobody stands out as any different than another. We have 2-6wk old Silver Laced Wyandottes, 4-4wk old GLW, and 2-4 wk old Australorps.

It certainly contains a lot of information! Sounds like you have a lovely flock. Wyandottes are my favorite breed of chicken. Mine have been good egg layers and have had the most personable and inquisitive temperaments of all my birds. I haven't kept Australorps before, but they have a reputation on here for being excellent layers with good temperaments.

Good luck with your chicks! Welcome to our community and I hope you enjoy BYC as much as we have! Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Reason BYC pops up on google search for chicken answers is simple. This forum has sooooooo many threads and postings. There is almost nothing that has not been asked. .. That is how I ran across BYC, doing a google search. Now I'm a member and proud to be here.
Well

Yes, it seems like anything you google on chickens is going to come up BYC. LOL But this IS the place to be anyway, so welcome to our flock!

You picked some really nice breeds. When they get a bit older, you can post pics in our What Breed and Gender section of the forums for help with sexes.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. :o) You chose some good dual purpose breeds. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.
