While I had been considering chickens, I had questions. Almost everytime I googled a question, BYC came up. I am very appreciative of the info and insight. I chose breeds based on the info here regarding temprament, cold hardiness, and beauty. We have 8 chicks and are in the process of building our coop. I got all of our chicks from a local feedstore, supposedly pullets. My fingers are crossed, but so far, nobody stands out as any different than another. We have 2-6wk old Silver Laced Wyandottes, 4-4wk old GLW, and 2-4 wk old Australorps.

) You chose some good dual purpose breeds. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.
and Welcome To BYC!
