Thanks all for your replies. I did take a look at Craigslist. Not much going for my area. Or, I should say the two cities that are listed that are near where I live. I even searched up in the area where my parents live. Even less up that way. Then I got the bright idea that maybe I could get my daughter's bed (not mattress, just the bed frame itself) from Craigslist. Not happening as of yet.
I did find a shed that I could convert into a coop for very little money. However, it's more than two hours away, and we'd have to borrow a truck and trailer, and even then I can't see the inside of it to know what shape it's in. I hate to say it, but I really can't take a person's word for it that it's in good shape. We may have differing views as to what "good" is.
I am looking forward to the garden though, and that helps. I guess we just need to take care of what we have first. Maybe next year things will be looking a little better. The teaching jobs are opening more and more now, so maybe I'll actually get a job instead of just subbing and working at the church.
