I've done a terrible thing! [pic added]&UPDATED

I'm sorry for your mishap, but never having seen a developing chicken myself, I have to say that's a really interesting thing to see.

(((((((((((((((((((((((you)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I have done this many many many times, by accident ofcourse, I once dropped a 2 week along chicken egg, the baby was fully fzzed and everything

I gave it to the dog becuas ethe yolk had busted, broke my heart

Well, since you said it was on day 7, I'd say 7 days old.

So sorry you have this dilemma. But there's no way it will survive now. I put dead eggs/chicks in the freezer until garbage day. It would be fairly quick, it'll get cold and go to sleep. Then freeze.

Yes, it is very sad, but I know from experience that that egg wouldn't make it! If you would have left it in your incubator, it would have become rotten and potentially exploded and damaged your other eggs. I know it doesn't help matters. My husband dropped an egg on day 17 whren we were laying them on their sides and it was heart-breaking. It was a whole chick alive, but died because it needed those extra couple days.

As far as getting rid of it, you might want to consider flushing it?

LOL!! I couldn't kill it, I'm a wuss. I wouldn't even step on an ant!

I have resisted the urge to put it back in the incubator. There is no way it can keep developing like that?

Going to bed and hoping it's dead by morning.

It was on day 7, but for the first 3 ish days I had a temp of 80 F because of a wrong thermometer, so just wondering if it had developed in low temps or if a 4/5 day old embyro would look like this.

If you have hens throw it to them, call it recycling

Next time try waxing it if you want. I've waxed an egg that came in the mail that was smashed like that, but more so. Since most of the egg was waxed over I had to help the chick out once I knew that it was ready to pip, but my mother wound up with a lovely little pullet that she wouldn't have had if I had tossed the egg. If you don't think you would have been around to help the chick hatch out of the wax it wouldn't have been a good idea, but if you're pretty sure you'll have the time and aren't squeamish about helping when it's really needed, it's really a really cool deal when it works. Mom named the pullet Waxahachie, for obvious reasons, and calls it Waxy.

For the curious, this was my post on my experience with Waxahachie . . . https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=2266710#p2266710

I am sorry this happened to you. I know how hard it is when you feel like you made a bad decision. If it makes you feel better I think it was only a matter of time until it died on it s own.

Just think about all the cute chicks you'll have in just a few short weeks.

I feel your pain and sadness.. I was tossing dud eggs out and was new to the experience of candling and thought they were all duds.. I am a chick murderer. I broke the first three open so carefully and they were not fertilized or not developing anyway.. Get to number 4 , my EE egg (could not see though) and OMG.. there was a chick that I had killed.. I watched it move around and the heart was beating.. I just walked away. This was day 9

It was not a complete waste.. I learned so much from this experience and learned to use 2 led lights.. Best of all, I had no clue how big or how the veining was attached until this.. I had 2 live chicks from my first hatch out of 10 eggs collected on day 18 away from rooster.. Not to shabby.
