Ok, we have 8 total. I haven't checked on mama bird tonight, but from the incubator, we have 8 total.
I opened up the rest, and 3 had internally pipped, but had died. we had about 5 others that had grown to term, but hadn't even internally pipped. The membranes were moist, so the humidity was fine, they just weren't strong enough.
My theory is let them pip on their own, if they can pip and get stuck, I'll help them out, but other wise, they have to do it on their own (not to mention I don't want to hurt them opening the egg).
My bf said it best, it would have been really sad if I put a bunch of time and effort into pipping and hatching them myself, just to have them be too weak and die.
I'm glad he was here tonight to help me out, I almost burst into tears when I opened one of the "M" eggs to find a perfect little black and white guy, all tucked up inside, pipped and everything.
I've been cuddling with the rest of my babies, giving lots of loves and cuddles.
For those who want to know, my schedual last night was this:
9pm-go to bed, I know I'm going to be up all night
10pm-I just manage to fall asleep, and the bf calls me
10:30-I get up to check the babies, 1 is hatched(BS)
12:30-I get up to check again, 2 are unzipping
1:30am-1 is almost out, one is most likely asleep, 2 more pips
4:30am-we have 6 babies!!! And I write on my board(we live by giant dry-erase boards in my house) 4:30am-6 babies
5:30am-Stepmom wakes me up to tell me we have 6 babies, I direct her to my board
6:00am-I can't fall back asleep and can hear my mom peeping at the incubator, so I decide to get up.
6:30am-I'm asleep on the chair next to the incubator
7:00am-My little bro is awake, and comes out of his room screaming about eggs hatching
And the day went on, some of my group came by @ about 12:00, had to go to school at 12:45, come home @ 3 from class, and they're still there, and we have another baby
and now we have 8 total
2 silkies-1 eb, 1 yellow
4 BS-1 chocolate, 1 chipmunk, 2 yellow
1 X, 1T/- both eb
One of the kids in my group (and my neighbor, I've babysat them for the past 4 years now) just had his little oegb pullet die, so they(unknowingly, but the mom knows) have first dibs on the 2 silkie babies, if they want them.
Thank you Frank!!
